Supported Employment Program
Linkages are made to generic services i.e. Employment support agencies for pre-employment training such as resume writing, self presentation, interpersonal skill management, job search and interview techniques, employment counselling and career awareness and more specific job training if required i.e. WHMIS. A referral to work retention funding may also be available.
Individuals will be assisted in determining their needs and interests/options in relation to career planning. Volunteer work placements may be utilized to facilitate this process. SEP provides an employment plan for all participants. This includes training, education, preparation, work ethics, work safety and awareness of worker’s rights.
Once a job is secured, the program may provide minimal on site job coaching until natural supports take over, training and teaching policies and procedures and health and safety for the workplace. The training enables the participant to learn the required skills and integrate naturally into the workplace. Supplementary supports may also be available such as workplace social skills, hygiene and appropriate dress training.
Follow-up provides ongoing support services to supported employees and employers, as required, to assure satisfactory employment relationship and job retention.
